National Junior Beta Club

         As Corpus Christi School continues to look where we can enhance and expand our school, one area we’d like to look at is community service.  As a result, Corpus Christi School is offering membership into the Junior National Beta Club for grades 4-8.
         The National Junior Beta Club is an honor organization that recognizes outstanding academic achievement, promotes strong moral character and social responsibility, encourages service to others, fosters leadership skills, and provides settings for you to develop strong interpersonal skills.  The National Beta Club, like the school, looks to promote character, develops leadership skills, encourages service involvement, recognizes academic achievement and provides technological advantages to students in grade 4-12.

1. Who is in charge of the Beta Club?  You are to report to Ms. Paladino and Mrs. Donovan.
2. What do I have to do to stay on Beta Club?  Academically, you need to have passing grades across the board and stay out of trouble.  From a service perspective, you need to be doing at least 10 hours a community service this year.
3. What counts as Community Service?  You can do anything that requires you helping others and getting nothing in return.  If someone gives you a token of appreciation, that’s fine, but it cannot be a requirement.  Chores at home does not count.  Doing homework does not count.  Tutoring, reading to a younger sibling at night, volunteering somewhere, staying and helping a teacher, shoveling snow and carrying bags for an elderly neighbor are all examples of what would count.
4. When can I do volunteer work and get credit for it?  All year long and at any time.  We will tell you when they will start recording hours and when they will stop recording hours.
5. How do I get credit?  It’s easy.  All you have to do is give the attached form to the person in charge of what you are doing.  That person should be writing what you did, when and for how long.  They then need to write their name and sign their signature for you to get credit. Once you fill up the form, hand it in to Ms. Paladino or Mrs. Donovan for credit.

7. Is there a maximum number of hours I can volunteer? No, the more the better.
8. Are there meetings?  Yes, we will meet once every month or every other month unless something comes up.  You will be notified ahead of time when they will be.
9. Can I be removed from the National Beta Club?  Yes, if you don’t maintain the annual minimum number of hours of service, are failing classes or consistently getting in trouble, you most likely will be removed from the club.
10. Are there ceremonies? Yes, we do an Induction Ceremony and an End of the Year awards ceremony each year.
